Castro

Carl Burgin

The Castro is a musical computer interface designed to give the user the flexible continuous control without loosing utility and portability. It is an instrument designed for the performer concerned more with precise musical control rather than theatrics but depending on it use, can be a very engaging live performance tool. The Castro consists of eight membrane potentiometers touch strips for continuous gestural control similar to a fader potentiometer. What makes the membrane potentiometers preferable to a fader potentiometer is the added abilities to jump to specific values and to choose whether or not the value is held once the potentiometer stops being engaged. There are also 16 push buttons, providing the user with the option of using them as toggle switches or triggers. All of this is built into a portable case.
